Launch Graphics

SpaceX is focused on leading the new age of exploration and revolutionizing space technology. They give the world a front-row seat via their live streamed launches. We were honored and excited to design a graphics package worthy of their futuristic ambitions including Mission Timeline, Rocket Telemetry, Status Updates, and Video Feeds.

Initial Design Concepts

We began by working with their team of subject matter experts to understand what sort of telemetry and mission information needed to appear on screen during the webcasts. We designed wireframes and created hierarchies of critical information like Event Clock and Mission Timeline as well as nice to haves like Social Media Integration to allow the audience to be a part of the webcasts.

From those wireframes, we explored a variety of style options for colors, shape language, and layout. During these early stages I led collaborative sessions between client stakeholders and our creative team to ensure that we are including all the necessary information and reacting to feedback in quick cycles of review.

Final Webcast Design

In the end, the our design became a sleek, minimal dashboard of information that could flex for the different stages of the mission. We also worked in a subtle design cue to the mission timeline that shows the curvature of Earth and rocket trajectory. The design layout had to be capable of flexing to show dual telemetry gauges for the different stages of the Dragon rocket as well as a “double-hop” or “triple-hop” video layout to show multiple camera views from the rocket and in the SpaceX studio.

This was an exciting project to help SpaceX continue to push the world and space travel into the future. Learning from subject matter experts and structuring collaboration between designers and aerospace engineers to ensure we delivered a design worthy of the cosmos.
